Shumsky Enterprises Case Study
Situation:
Shumsky Enterprises, a promotional products company based in Dayton, Ohio, underwent a branding “refresh” … The company modified its logo to illustrate its renewed focus on relationships, versus just fulfilling ad specialty orders.
Shumsky turned to Oregon Printing to produce its updated identity package. Materials included business cards, letterhead, envelopes, notecards, notepads and hang tags for merchandise.
Challenge:
As part of the rebranding, Shumsky opted to use a subtle raised (or embossed) look for elements of its new logo. Because of the range of materials Shumsky needed and their various uses, the embossing process wasn’t ideal for the full set of materials. For example, stationery items like notecards, couldn’t have the logo reverse imprinted on the inside.
So, Oregon was challenged to produce “matching” final products – even though the pieces required different papers and production methods.
Solution:
Oregon expertly executed several different production methods to achieve a perfect color and imprint match.
- Shumsky’s Letterhead and Notecards were produced as two-color and then embossed in-line with the printing.
- Thank You cards were produced using two-color printing and thermography. Thermography is a finishing process involving special inks, powder and intense heat.
- Notepads were finished manually to achieve a matching rounded corner.
- Clear varnish was used to create a subtle finish on the company name and the red element of the logo.
In the end, all of Shumsky’s new materials achieved the same result – regardless of the various processes and handwork required. The process – and the result – was seamless and pain-free for the client.
